Meet me at the Farmers Market!!!!

My new favorite Self Care Saturday activity is hitting the Dallas Farmers Market. After a few visits I have to highlight the black vendors and farmers I met and my required food stops.

SO lets go!!!

BONTON FARM

Mission: "We’re driven by the mission to restore lives, create jobs and ignite hope in a once forgotten and neglected neighborhood with some of the most marginalized people."

My first time seeing this vendor was a few weeks ago. My first thought was Bonton? like Bonton Bonton. My mom and her entire family grew up in Rhoades Terrace Projects so I have a connection to South Dallas. An area that's visited by many during fair season but forgotten about throughout the rest of the year. South Dallas is a predominately black area, essentially a food desert with limited access. The creation of this farm provides black people with access to fresh produce, healthier food options, and education regarding food choices. It was so exciting meeting the three black men working in the area of agriculture and being passionate about creating these opportunities to help their community.

I picked up a few things. First of all, you have to try the honey butter. Its great on toast or bagels. I also plan to add to my plain yogurt for some sweetness.

I was also able to purchase a bundle of sage and basil. Both basil and sage provide Vitamin A and Potassium. Vitamin A affects vision, bone growth, immunity, and reproduction. Though Vitamin A deficiency is not very common it is directly linked to impaired vision, blindness, and anemia. Try using basil, sage, or any other dried fresh herb for added flavor. I LOVE pasta, so I typically add chop basil to my Italian inspired sauce recipes and also as a garnish.

All of my memorial day produce was purchased here as well. My new fav meal trick is to roast my vegetables. Its easy, quick, and delicious. The leeks I purchased here were great, after trimming, peeling the darker leaves, I tossed them in oil, garlic, lemon, and threw them in the oven. You can try this method with many other vegetables, broccoli is great, spaghetti squash works well too!

I plan to continue to support, volunteer, learn a few things for my new patio garden, and help spread the word about this organization. So happy to see black farmers thriving.

YENISI BEAUTY

A black owned business providing 100% organic, 100% vegan, 100% cruelty free beauty products.

I purchased the body butter and the hair balm. I love the smell, feel, and packaging.

JUICE BABE

My last stop for the day. Now I'm here for all avocado recipes. I've even made mediocre attempts at preparing a new avocado toast creation but, LISSEN LISA this avocado toast is different. A HIT.

Please try the Avocado Crush. It will not disappoint. While you're at it, go to your local Kroger and get "Everything Bagel Seasoning" because its also life changing but back to the matter at hand.

Avocado, goat cheese, fried egg, mircogreens, and Everything Bagel Seasoning *inserts bugged eyed, tongue out emoji* Y'all think I'm gassing but its that good.
